Empire Polo & Wine Festival continues this Sunday, January 29th, minus the polo games
Quarantine of horses halts polo games; Wine Festival continues as scheduled
Indio, CA- The polo matches at the Empire Polo Club have been temporarily suspended after a horse residing on the property was confirmed positive for the neuropathogenic strain of Equine Herpes Virus-1 (NEHV-1).”
“After a day long meeting with California Animal Health veterinarians and representatives from both Eldorado and Empire Polo clubs, a 21 day quarantine has been placed on the entire polo club complex and the private ranches within the boundaries” stated Dr. Manno, DVM in a recent update about the quarantine.
Also stated in Dr. Manno’s report, “The quarantine is ordered and enforced by the State Animal Health officials. No horses are to come or go from the quarantine zone.”
The quarantine does not effect the Date Shed live music venue or the Tack Room Tavern Restaurant also located on the grounds of the Empire Polo Club. Both venues are open for business.
Festivals This Weekend …
There are two festivals being hosted at the Empire Polo Club this weekend including the Southwest Arts Festival, an Indio Chamber of Commerce Event, and the Empire Polo & Wine Festival. Both events will continue as scheduled.
The Empire Polo & Wine Festival has changed its format and will couple it’s wine tasting with a “Day on the Lawn” featuring live music, croquet and bocce ball. More than a dozen wineries will pour samples of hand-crafted wine produced in Temecula Valley.
Wine tasters will enjoy live jazz and acoustic music as they meander through the lawn area tasting wine and enjoying the ornate fountains, elegant sculptures and tropical gardens.
Due to the horse quarantine, no polo matches will be featured during the Empire Polo & Wine Festival this year. The Empire Polo & Wine Festival has discounted the wine tasting ticket price to $15.00 per person to accommodate the format change.

Empire’s Polo & Wine Festival Venue
Spectators can meander through the beautiful botanical gardens of Medjhool Lake and view whimsical statues and elegant fountains that are all part of the Sunday Polo venue at Empire Polo Club. Two new large bronze lions have been added to the main #1 field along with a series of Spanish-style fountains that flank the white Olympic-peaked tents. The most picturesque fountain is located at the main entrance to Empire’s Sunday Polo Venue and is titled “Angel of The Waters” which is a replica of the Bethesda Fountain in Central Park.
The landscaping at Empire Polo Club is impressive with more than 10,000 palm trees on the property, 8,000 rose bushes and a climate controlled botanical garden. Empire Polo club has often been described as “the most beautiful polo club in the country” by polo affectionados. It is an experience like no other.
