Daily Update – February 2, 2012

A relatively quiet day…sort of.  There are no horses in the designated isolation area for the first time in a week, but 2 other horses are under observation within their respective quarantine zones.  A horse in the Gehache zone had a reported fever of 102 late last night.  This stabling area has not had any contact with outside horses since the start of quarantine and has a section of pens that are far away from the barn stalls.  We decided to isolate the horse on sight and rechecked it today.  The horse never had a temperature over 100.0.  Still, to be cautious, the owners agreed to submit samples for testing.  These results should be back tomorrow evening.  Another horse in the Fish Creek/Browns stabling area had an elevated temp at feed time.  I checked this horse several times myself within 15 minutes of the call and the temperature was 101.3 – 101.4.  This horse has not been currently playing and is actually resting.  It was left in its stall and will be reevaluated tomorrow morning.

A note on the quarantine rules – we are all growing restless and polo players and horses alike do not do well out of their normal routine.  Please stick to your respective areas and stay on the track.  The fields are currently closed to horses.  Do not take scenic rides back to your barn across the polo fields or exercise around the International Field.  That breaks down our separation of zones.  Remember, this is only day 10 of a 21 day quarantine.  We need to get past day 14 with no other cases in order to be able to increase the activity of our horses.  Stick to the program.  Everyone is doing an amazing job so let’s keep it up.
